In the Great Basin, land management agencies have little to no information on pre-settlement ecosystem dynamics and their driving forces, such as wildfire and climate.

Long records of fire frequency and regime, climatic variability, and species distribution are important not only for fire management, but also for vegetation ecosystem care.

This project will assess the historical variability of surface ecosystem processes (fire, precipitation, stand dynamics) for multiple areas in Lincoln County, south-eastern Nevada. Public outreach and education are an important component of the project.
